Regardless of your political affiliation, the 9/12 march on Washington, DC, was a sight to behold. Wave after wave of humanity united by a common goal. The last time I saw that many people all wanting the same thing I was in line to use a Port-A-Potty at an all-day outdoor rock concert. To hear the mainstream media talk about it, though, the march was no big deal. Reporting of the march started by saying there were “tens of thousands” of people. Having seen pictures and video of the march, saying “tens of thousands” of people were there is like saying Joe Biden has a slight problem with misspeaking off the cuff.
Then, there are the recent ACORN scandals. After years of alleged criminal activity (who knew registering Mickey Mouse repeatedly was illegal?), ACORN representatives have been caught on camera giving advice to a filmmaker and a friend of his posing as a pimp and a prostitute on how to avoid paying taxes, how to hide the “prostitute’s” real profession for tax purposes, and even how to claim illegal child prostitutes as dependents! I’m not the smartest man in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but even I know when it’s not a good idea to say something, especially if it involves child prostitution!
To be fair to the media, though, they did cover this story…after Fox News scooped them on all four occasions. Even after the story broke, the media seemed to be blasé about it all. ABC’s Charles Gibson even went so far as to say that he hadn’t heard about the story because he was sailing. But we couldn’t get enough media coverage of Jon and Kate Gosselin’s drama-of-the-day? (“Jon Says, “I’ll Never Eat Tex-Mex Again Because of Kate.”)
Even when the media cover an event in a manner that could be considered timely, they’re getting the story wrong. Take the Van Jones story, for example. The media didn’t consider Jones being an avowed communist a problem. They didn’t care that Jones never had to face a Senate hearing. What do you think the media focused on when they covered Jones resigning as Green Jobs Czar? He called Republicans a name I can’t repeat here because this is a family website.
Glenn Beck has said that he believes the media are complicit in covering up the crimes of politicians, and he’s right to a point. There was a time when reporters would dig for stories and expose corruption wherever they found it, regardless of the consequences. Now, such an attitude would mean the worst of all possible punishments for a reporter: no more invitations to cocktail parties thrown by the people they’re hired to cover. But they haven’t given up completely on the investigative journalism gig. How else would we know that Sarah Palin’s daughter’s ex-fiance’s mother’s cousin’s hairdresser’s pet groomer once experimented with marijuana?
Where Beck gets it wrong is that the Left doesn’t play by the same rules of reality that the rest of us do. If we see, say, Kanye West interrupting the MTV Video Music Awards to proclaim that Taylor Swift shouldn’t have won an award for a video and that Beyonce should have, we see a jerk acting up on almost live TV. If the Left sees the same incident, they see a black man acting out against what is obviously racism by the MTV VMA voters to deny a talented black female singer an award that was given to a white artist because of her skin color. Of course this is completely hypothetical because as we all know Kanye West would never act up in public!
For you Leftists reading this, that was sarcasm.
The reason the Left isn’t on speaking terms with reality is because often their beliefs are in direct conflict with reality. That’s how they can justify their position that capitalism (a system that has worked pretty well for centuries) is a failure and socialism (a system that works less often than Joe Piscopo) might just work if we give it a chance. And when you consider the Left invests so much of their self worth on what they believe, they take any assault by the forces of reality personally and do what any self-respecting person would do.
Pretend reality isn’t real and invent a reality that is real to them.
Now, consider that reporters today tend to lean left. Kinda puts their reporting on the 9/12 protest in Washington into perspective, doesn’t it? While they toss around numbers to try to downplay the event, they miss the point of the event altogether. It has nothing to do with race or Glenn Beck or a Democrat winning the Presidency like the media love to think. But no matter how many times we try to explain it, the media will never get it because it threatens their version of reality. So, just do what I do whenever some talking airhead speaks of “Birthers” and “Teabaggers.”
Mock them mercilessly.
